Farida is the Executive Director of UBINIG, a policy and action research organization in Bangladesh working with the farming, weaving and rural and urban communities in Bangladesh. She also runs Narigrantha Prabartana, the first and only feminist bookstore and feminist publishing house in Bangladesh. In UBINIG, she has led the research works on many development issues, health, environment and issues of globalisation. She has been involved in struggles for farmers rights, violence against women at social level as well due to government policies, human rights violation of people due to denial of health rights.
Farida has been actively involved in the national level women’s movement and is an active member of various international networks such as FINRRAGE (Feminist International Network for Resistance against Reproductive and Genetic Engineering) etc. She is a member of various national and regional networks such as the South Asia Network on Food, Ecology and Culture (SANFEC). Sammilita Nari Samaj, the United Women's Front in Bangladesh and Council Member of Asian Women’s Human Rights Council (AWHRC). She is the Co-Coordinator of Shashtya Andolon (Health Movement) since 2000. She was the member of International Advisory Committee of the International Women and Health Meeting held in Delhi, India in 2005. She has organised many international conference on health and reproductive technologies in Bangladesh.
Farida is the editor of fortnightly Bengali magazine 'Chinta', and the executive editor of monthly English journal 'People’s Perspectives'. She has written several books in Bangla and in English, including: 'Violence of Population Control' (1994); 'Depopulating Bangladesh Essays on the Politics of Fertility and Reproductive Rights' (1996); 'Resisting Norplant: Women's Struggle in Bangladesh against Coercion and Violence' (1995), and 'Seeds of Movement: On Women’s Issues in Bangladesh' (2007).
